Cardiff & Vale Health Charity is pleased to announce Trudy Logue, Clinical Nurse Specialist, University Hospital of Wales, has been crowned Health Hero for November.

Trudy works as an Arrhythmia Nurse within Cardiology and truly goes above and beyond for her patients. When discussing this nomination, a patient said, “After I was transferred to Cardiology, Trudy was there at the first ward round and frequently called to see me on the ward. Among the chaos and confusion, Trudy was a constant presence who helped me to make sense of what was going on.”

As the patient was admitted during the peak of the pandemic, visiting with family and friends wasn’t allowed which left them feeling lonely and isolated. As the patient’s surgery was delayed due to an infection, Trudy arranged a ‘Life Vest’ which is essentially an external defibrillator that allowed the patient to return home to rest. During this time Trudy checked in with regular phone calls and also organised for the ‘Life Vest’ Rep to do the same until surgery.

The patient continued, “Several months after the successful surgery, my return to work in the midst of the pandemic was immensely challenging and I admit I struggled. However, Trudie made herself available to be contacted if I needed support and she saw me regularly in Cardiology clinic as part of my follow up. Trudy has been incredibly supportive and understanding throughout.”

Trudy has been described as incredibly kind and compassionate, and continues to build on her knowledge and improving patient care by undertaking an MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice. She is currently working on her dissertation in the experience of  patients using ‘Life Vests’.

The patient concluded, “Trudy is quiet and diligent, and in my eyes very much an unsung hero. I will be forever indebted to her.”

Trudy will be Health Hero for the month of November and will receive a treat from sponsors Park Plaza Cardiff. She is delighted with the award nomination.

The Health Hero Award is supported by Cardiff & Vale Health Charity and Park Plaza Cardiff.
