This week, the Welsh Transplant Team is travelling to Sheffield to take part in the 2026 Westfield Health British Transplant Games, taking place from 6 to 9 August.
The team includes 23 transplant recipients, from junior to adult competitors, alongside four living donors and 18 supporters. Together, they will represent Wales across 14 sports; archery, athletic throws, badminton, cycling, darts, football, golf, pétanque, snooker, swimming, table tennis, ten pin bowling, tennis, track and field.
For the past five years, Cardiff & Vale Health Charity has helped make Team Wales’ participation possible by funding adult and junior competitor fees, as well as team kit and other essential costs. This support ensures transplant recipients can continue to benefit from the Games, which offer opportunities for friendly competition, connection and celebration of life after transplantation.
Organised by Transplant Sport, the British Transplant Games have been bringing transplant recipients, living donors and supporters together for more than 45 years. The event celebrates the life-changing impact of organ donation while inspiring conversations about transplantation and recovery.
