Each year, our incredible Gifts in Wills donors help us with funding state of the art facilities that support patient and staff wellbeing, and provide volunteering opportunities. A previous Gifts in Wills donation helped kickstart Our Health Meadow which is an on-going community project based in the fields surrounding the University Hospital Llandough site.

Cardiff & Vale Health Charity and Cardiff and Vale University Health Board are working with partners such as Down to Earth to further develop Our Health Meadow which is believed to be the first of its kind at a hospital site in the UK.

Charles Janczewski, Chair of Cardiff and Vale University Health Board said: “If Covid-19 has taught us anything it is the importance of being outside, in green spaces.  Our Health Meadow project will enhance the benefits of health and wellbeing while supporting our patients on their journey of recovery and rehabilitation, as well as providing a vital respite space for NHS staff wellbeing.”

“The health benefits of environmental factors and the impact of nature and wildlife upon physical and mental wellbeing has long been recognised and Our Health Meadowhelps to enhance this vision.”

Geoff Bodman, a previous patient and long-term Cardiff & Vale Health Charity supporter, has been volunteering with Down to Earth. An active fundraiser, Geoff is passionate about making a difference and getting involved to help staff and patients of Cardiff and Vale University Health Board. In the video he shares his inspiring story and talks about the skills he has gained, and how much he has benefitted from volunteering outdoors.

A project like Our Health Meadow wouldn’t be possible without the initial Gifts in Wills donation. As March is Free Wills Month, we are remembering the generous donations that funded fantastic projects like Our Health Meadow.
