A team of NHS staff and their families have registered with Cardiff & Vale Health Charity to run the Cardiff Half Marathon this year, and joined together to raise money for the Emergency Unit (EU) at the University Hospital of Wales (UHW).

UHW has the largest EU in Wales, treating over 144,000 patients during the past year. Staff assess, treat and resuscitate adults, children and babies 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days of the year.

One runner, Health Care Support Worker, Lewys Rigby, is also a part time firefighter, and to raise funds for EU recently washed cars with Abercynon Firefighters.    Half of funds raised went to their fire station and the other half to EU.   He raised £100!

Other team members include Jenny Holmes, Caz Arter, Sam Barrett, Stephanie Bacon, Carys Davies, Zoe Evans, Anisty Fox, Annmarie Goggin, Nick Goode, Laura Jones, Doug Shaw, Tiffany Shaw, Lowri Taylor, Matt Williams and Rachael Yandle.

The team are hoping to raise funds which will help to make a considerable difference to patients in their care and help assist in improving the high standards of care they currently deliver.

If you would like to support The EU Team and make a donation, text EMER61 with the amount (big or small) to 70070, or visit https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/EmergencyunitUHW1
