Many businesses and organisations have shown so much support to Cardiff and Vale University Health Board staff and patients during the past year.  From donations to Cardiff & Vale Health Charity of food, toiletries, loans of vehicles and so much more – the gratitude for the work of the NHS has never been stronger in our communities.

Simone Joslyn, Head of Cardiff & Vale Health Charity and Arts said: “I’d like to thank all the businesses and organisations that have supported Health Board patients and staff by making donations through our Health Charity.  The kindness shown has been overwhelming and we are extremely grateful for all that you did to help make a difference to our patients and staff at a time when they needed it the most.  Thank you.”

Here are just a few of those businesses and organisations who worked together to aid in the response to Covid-19.

Nathaniel Cars supported the Health Board during the pandemic by loaning 12 vehicles for use by the Out of Hours service and for Covid test transportation across hospital sites.  They have also donated 5,000 items of PPE equipment to help our staff on the frontline.

Cardiff & Vale Health Charity received generous donations from NHS Charities Together to help those in Black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) communities during Covid-19.  One area that has received this NHS Charities Together funding is our Elan Team.  Midwives in the Elan Team care for women who require additional social support. The funds will help provide essential items for pregnant asylum seekers who are often disadvantaged and from BAME backgrounds.

Grosvenor Interiors have helped create relaxing and calming spaces within our hospitals for Health Board staff to take time out from the wards for some well-deserved rest and relaxation.  Watch more about how they helped transform the Staff Haven at Lakeside wing here: http://ow.ly/r0YI30rz0BE

When the Paediatric Emergency Unit moved locations to inside the Children’s Hospital for Wales, it meant that young patients had to walk outside in the rain in order to get the treatment they needed.  Willmott Dixon kindly supplied of golf umbrellas so that children could be taken for their care without getting wet.  They also donated vouchers for Health Charity Christmas events and to bring some festive spirit the donated a large Christmas tree to University Hospital Llandough.

Wales Probation Services’ Community Payback Team helped with logistics during the past year.  They delivered VE Day celebration boxes to community and hospital settings, they helped with transportation of the huge amounts of food and toiletry donations received sharing them across hospital sites, and collected donations from shops and supermarkets all over Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan for use in the Staff Havens.

Poppi Contract Furniture have helped furnish the Staff Havens and staff break out rooms during Covid-19, ensuring that staff have somewhere to take a rest during a busy shift.  Poppi has also kindly helped out with event and raffle prizes used for fundraising at a time when charity donations were greatly reduced.

Cardiff Bus wanted to do something to help their local NHS charity so they encouraged staff to have dress up and dress down days to raise money for Cardiff & Vale Health Charity. They had Hawaiian themed days, pink themed days and we’re sure Elvis was spotted driving one of their buses!

The Golden Cross – Rob Burnett and the team supported their local NHS staff during Covid-19 with a variety of fun fundraising activities, shows and events.

St. David’s Shopping Centre, Cardiff kindly supported Cardiff & Vale Health Charity during Christmas by asking shoppers to make a donation to their local NHS charity.  Throughout St. David’s Shopping Centre, QR codes were  displayed at queuing points, in lifts and on the stairwells to the car parks inviting shoppers to scan to support their local NHS charity.

Blue Light Card and In Kind Direct donated 21 pick-me-up pallets of treats, toiletries and goodies for our NHS staff at a time when it was needed the most.  These goodies brought smiles and appreciation to staff.

Thank you to Jayne Morgan, Lewys Helyar, Amy Lewis and the Committee of the Cardiff Medical Centre Sports & Social Club for their support during the past year. The team kindly allowed the Health Board and Health Charity to use the Sports and Social Club as Staff Haven for a number of months at the height of the pandemic.

Supermarkets also came out in force to support our NHS staff, with trolley collections in store, donation points and collection tins.  Thanks to Sainsbury’s, Asda, Tesco, Coop and Boots for their generosity.
