Through the Covid-19 Charitable Funds Application process, Cardiff & Vale Health Charity has recently supported a bid for funds from St. Mary’s Pharmaceutical Unit and Clinical Engineering for new furniture to improve their break/tearoom area.

Their existing breakroom had not been re-decorated since they occupied the building 12 years ago. The upholstery on most of the chairs was worn through to the foam, and most of the furniture was second hand when the staff moved in. The staff have worked exceptionally hard during the pandemic and the application for charitable funds was made hoping that refurbishing this break room would make it a more welcoming, comfortable and clean place for staff to relax, and would be the perfect thank you to recognise the staffs efforts during such a challenging time.

Thanks to the contractors ET&S operating under the supervision of the Health Board’s Capital, Estates and Facilities team, work was completed in February prior to the new furniture being installed. As the photos show, the team now have a fresh, fit for purpose environment to be able to take a break during their working day.

Ed Chapman, Deputy Head of Clinical Engineering said: “The tearoom was very shabby with dirty walls, floor and old torn furniture. Now it is redecorated and equipped with new furniture the room is much more welcoming, comfortable, and clean!

“The staff have expressed their satisfaction with the outcome and were consulted via a survey before work commenced to enable them to share their views.”
