Cardiff & Vale Health Charity is delighted to fund the Third Sector Small Grants Scheme, which is administered by Glamorgan Voluntary Services (GVS) on behalf of GVS and Cardiff Third Sector Council (C3SC). This scheme offers small grants to local third sector groups and charitable organisations.
Cardiff & Vale Health Charity has previously worked with GVS and C3SC to help these organisations in communities throughout Cardiff and The Vale of Glamorgan to flourish.
The criteria for funding generally focuses on third sector community healthcare improvement projects in the region. The key priorities for the grant programme will be around arts and wellbeing and social prescribing. Those projects requesting funding will be built on the foundations of collaborative work and focused on the third sector’s role in health and social care.
One example of a previously successful project is for a sensory garden with Marie Curie.
Marie Curie were awarded funds to help them develop part of the planned sensory garden within the hospice garden for patients to enjoy.
The team at Marie Curie chose to develop a neglected and unused patio area to the side of the building into a beautiful, therapeutic space.
The basis of the garden was to design it around three raised planters which would be made by the woodwork shop of Vision 21, a local charity that supports people with learning disabilities.
The planting of the garden was delayed due to COVID-19, but with restrictions lifted the garden was planted in March 2021. The project created raised beds and planted roses, hyacinths, jasmine and other floral plants.
A spokesperson from Marie Curie said: “The funding has enabled us to establish a place of escape, tranquility and distraction into the hospice garden. The garden will become a focal point of the Hospice Horticulture group when it is re-established post-Covid and we hope to see it develop and change with the seasons.”
Applications for funding will open on Tuesday 1st June 2021 with a deadline for submission of application of 12:00pm on Friday 9th July 2021.
