A massive thank you and congratulations to one of our star fundraisers Simon Richards who completed his Walkathon Challenge, all in aid of helping the staff of Cardiff and Vale University Health Board during the COVID-19 pandemic!

Simon is an avid walker and loves keeping active. Whilst in lockdown and with the ability to exercise outdoors having been reduced, Simon was inspired by a gentleman in France that he had seen who had run a marathon on his balcony and decided to do a challenge of his own. Simon came up with the idea to walk the distance of a marathon in his flat, by repeatedly traversing his corridor, needing to complete over 2000 “lengths” to achieve the 26 mile distance.

Simon conquered his challenge with ease, taking 10 days and just under 2000 lengths to achieve his goal raising a fantastic £242.50 via his JustGiving page in the process which he wished to be donated to Cardiff & Vale Health Charity to help support our NHS heroes!

Simon said “I am autistic and am normally very active. I love going for walks but due to COVID-19 and living in a central area, that hasn’t been possible. But I’ve still been able to go for walks and that’s because I’m fortunate enough to have a nice long corridor in my flat to walk up and down.  I wanted to be able to keep being active but also saw it as an opportunity to raise awareness (and of course money!) for those who are affected and fighting this horrible virus.”

We at Cardiff & Vale Health Charity very much appreciate this act of kindness and on behalf of all the NHS teams here in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan, we thank Simon from the bottom of our hearts for his inspiring kindness and generosity once again.
