On the weekend of 23/24 October 2021, Natalie O’Shea, Sarah Butler & the whole team at Splash Central Cardiff hosted a ‘Splash of Pink’.  A weekend of events including sponsored swims, family swims, aqua marathons, fitness classes and craft sessions – something for all the family and all raising funds for our Breast Centre Appeal during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

In their own words, Natalie and Sarah said “What a fantastic weekend we had raising money for the Cardiff & Vale Breast Centre!”

“We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved in the weekend, from our sponsored swimmers, our families that came for a swim, our exercise class participants, our arts and crafters and all of those that spent money in our café”

All registration fees, sponsorship, donations and purchases made on the weekend will go directly to the Breast Centre Appeal – the amazing amount raised is currently just over £2500 with money still coming in.

The team at Splash Central are huge supporters of our Breast Centre Appeal, and working closely with our Senior Physiotherapist Victoria Collins (Tor) they regularly hold private swimming classes and exercise classes for patients that may have had breast cancer surgery or a breast cancer diagnosis.  Natalie and Sarah also said “We have met some wonderfully inspiring women through our work with Cardiff & Vale Breast Centre.  They are always full of praise for us, however, they really don’t realise that they bring a whole lot more to us than we can ever give to them.”

There are new recommendations on the benefits of twice weekly resistance training after a breast cancer diagnosis, and outsourcing some of our exercise classes held at Splash Central are just an example of what our Breast Centre Appeal can support.  This is in addition to employing our Senior Physiotherapist, and purchasing an iPad and 75 inch interactive screen with built in PC.  These are situated at the Breast Centre Gym to enable virtual exercise classes at home for those who are currently unable to attend live classes, or are more comfortable in their own home.

Sue Dickson-Davies, Senior Fundraiser with Cardiff & Vale Health Charity said “events such as ‘Splash of Pink’ enable the Breast Centre Appeal to continue to fund many wonderful projects which are over and above what NHS funding can provide.  We have incredible and inspiring fundraisers for our appeal and it is an absolute pleasure to support them in any way I possibly can.  Thank you to Natalie, Sarah and the whole team at Splash Central Cardiff for giving up their entire weekend for a cause we all feel passionate about”.
