A remarkable team of runners has raised nearly £17,000 for Cardiff & Vale Health Charity after taking on this year’s London Marathon, each with their own powerful motivation for crossing the finish line.
Clare described the day as “one of the best of my life,” thanks to incredible crowd support and having her family there to cheer her on. Despite finding the final miles “incredibly tough,” she said knowing she was raising money for the Breast Centre kept her going. After undergoing breast cancer treatment this time last year, completing the marathon was especially meaningful, giving her a sense of closure and a renewed appreciation for her health.
For Mia, taking part was “an honour,” even overcoming injury to make it to the finish line. She said the marathon was “the best day of my life,” and is determined to continue supporting the Charity through future events, with her fundraising total still growing.
Thea described the experience as “really tough but amazing,” and one of her biggest personal achievements. She admitted fundraising was at times more challenging than the training itself, making it even more rewarding to exceed her target. As a Specialist Nurse in the Care Home Liaison Team, she is passionate about supporting vulnerable older people and hopes some of the funds raised can help enhance care for her patients.
Joe also reflected on the day as “one of the best days of my life,” proud to represent Cardiff & Vale Health Charity on such a global stage and inspired by the impact the team has made.
Together, their determination, resilience and personal stories have helped raise a fantastic total, with donations still coming in. The funds will support patients, families and NHS staff across Cardiff and the Vale, making a real difference where it matters most.
A huge congratulations and thank you to all the runners for their incredible achievement.
