A familiar face around the University Hospital of Wales is taking part in a number of challenges this year to raise money for Cardiff & Vale Health Charity.

Chris Dawson-Morris, Corporate Strategic Planning Lead for Cardiff and Vale University Health Board has been working in the team for just over a year and since joining the Health Board has decided to adopt a healthier lifestyle.

Chris said: “In my previous job, I used to spend a lot of my time commuting to and from work in my car which lead me to suffer with back problems.  As I was less active, I’d began to put on a bit of weight.

“Now I’m living in Whitchurch, I’m able to cycle to and from work, which has improved my fitness and as I’m working for the Health Board, it’s only fair that I should live its values.

“I’ve recently taken up running and joined Heath Massive Run Club, which meets every Tuesday at Heath Park.  The group is fantastic, I generally run a 10k with them, it’s a really friendly group for all abilities.  The time I’m running goes by so quickly as we chat on the way around.”

“I took part in the Cardiff Half Marathon last year with the Health Charity and loved it.  The atmosphere at bigmoose coffee shop and the support on the way around was fantastic, so I thought I’d sign up and do some more challenges and raise some money.

“Cardiff & Vale Health Charity helps to improve the environment, not only for patients, but for the benefit of staff and the local community, it’s a pleasure to help fundraise to help make a difference for everyone.”

Chris is taking part in:

  • Cardiff Bay 10k, he’s hoping to complete it in under 50 minutes, beating last years’ time
  • Newport 10k
  • Cardiff Bay Bed Push as part of a team with Heath Massive Running Club
  • Sprint triathlon
  • Welsh Three Peaks
  • Cardiff Half Marathon
  • Len’s Challenge

Last year, our Health Charity mascot, Seren (AKA Carl Rogers) won the mascot race at the Cardiff Half Marathon, this year Chris is hoping take up the mantle and do us proud and keep the winning tradition going!
