Everyone at Cardiff & Vale Health Charity would like to say a massive thank you to Chris Wade and Mark Sadler who have decided to take the bold decision to shave their heads, all in aid of helping the staff of Cardiff and Vale University Health Board during the COVID-19 pandemic!

Chris was inspired by his mother-in-law Bev, who only four years ago underwent life changing surgery for a “rare and aggressive” cancer. Bev has since fully recovered and is now working full time as a Nurse Specialist in the Neurosurgery team of Cardiff and Vale UHB, currently caring for patients affected by COVID-19. Chris and Mark both wanted to show their support for Bev and the rest of our NHS heroes by shaving their heads and fundraising for Cardiff & Vale Health Charity. So far, their total currently stands at a fantastic £435 to help support their local NHS staff! Not only that but Chris, who is a Consultant Speech and Language Therapist, hosted a virtual coffee morning on Wednesday 29th April 2020. The coffee morning provided parents with an opportunity to discuss their child’s speech, language and communication needs via Zoom, where every consultation was completely free, instead asking people to kindly donate £5 to Cardiff & Vale Health Charity.

Chris said “I was trained by and worked for the NHS from 2004-2012 and, like many of us, I don’t have to look far across my friendship group and family to find someone close who works for the NHS. I could not be prouder of Bev and the rest of the kick ass NHS teams caring for COVID-19 patients so I hope this small gesture will help support our amazing local NHS through this difficult time”.

We at Cardiff & Vale Health Charity very much appreciate this act of kindness and on behalf of all the NHS teams here in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan, we thank SMK Building and friends from the bottom of our hearts for their inspiring kindness and generosity once again.

Frontline NHS staff go to work to keep us and our loved ones safe. The greatest thing we can do right now to return the gesture is to stay at home.

So please Stay Home, Protect the NHS, Save Lives.
