In December 2020, Cardiff & Vale Health Charity celebrated 10 years of making things better for patients, visitors, staff and the wider community.

The Health Charity had planned to hold a 10 year celebration event, looking back at the major projects it has funded and celebrating the contributions of their donors, fundraisers, volunteers and community partners during the past decade.  Unfortunately, due to Coronavirus these plans were cancelled.  Instead, the Health Charity will be taking a look back at how its fundraisers, donors, volunteers and community partners have helped to change things for the better over the past ten years.

Here are just some of the activities and events held by the Health Charity, supporters and fundraisers in 2013.

Health Charity moved from their base from Cardiff Royal Infirmary to the University Hospital of Wales in January 2013.

A family fun day was held in June 2013. Hundreds of people turned out on Saturday 1st June, to take part in the #acrossthewater family fun day. A fun family bike ride took place from the Wales Millennium Centre into the Vale of Glamorgan with the finish point at the Kymin, Penarth, where there was a summer fayre!  The family fun day was held in collaboration with Whizz Kids Wales.

A pyjama party was held for the Breast Centre Appeal in July 2013 in collaboration with South Wales Police at Jump Indoor Activity Centre in Llanishen.  Families and individuals came along for a host of activities including balloon modelling, obstacle course races, treasure hunts and face painting.

A number of runners took place in the Cardiff Half Marathon in October 2013 to raise funds for their local NHS charity. Thousands of people Ran the ‘Diff, taking on iconic locations around the capitol.

A creative way of helping dementia patients and their carers was showcased in November 2013.

The Art in DeMEntia event and exhibition was organised by SOLACE, a service within Cardiff and Vale University Health Board and supported by the Health Charity to support carers and people diagnosed with dementia.

It displayed the work of dementia patients and their carers created in weekly art and craft sessions designed to help patients stay out of hospital by encouraging them to engage in creative activities.
