Teresa, who is a Clerical Officer in the Sexual Health Department at Cardiff Royal Infirmary was nominated by former colleague Nathan Saunders for “making patients so happy.”
Teresa has worked in health in a variety of roles for 30 years and has worked in the busy Sexual Health Department at Cardiff Royal Infirmary for approximately 15 years.
Nathan said: “I had the pleasure of working with Teresa in 2015 where I quickly found out that she was a hardworking, well-loved member of the team that patients actively seek out when visiting the department.
“Teresa retired and returned a couple of years ago and now works three days a week, mainly in the Glossop suite which cares for the population of Cardiff and Vale of Glamorgan who are living with HIV.
“The Patients love Teresa who always offers a welcoming and warm smile every time they arrive at the clinic.
“When out and about in Cardiff, Patients who have had the pleasure of meeting Teresa, stop her in the street to say hello and tell her how wonderful she is.
“During COVID, she stepped up together with her colleagues in the running of the Glossop suite, donned her PPE and took the temperatures of every person walking through the door.
“Teresa turns 70 this month and I can’t think of anyone more deserving for a Health Hero Award because she makes Patients so happy.”
Upon informing Teresa she’d been named as August’s Health Hero she said: “I’m really shocked and delighted that Nathan chose to nominate me for this accolade.
“I’m really privileged to work as part of a fantastic team of staff in the Sexual Health Department – we all work together to do the best we can for our patients. I work 15 hours per week and I can honestly say those 15 hours are something I look forward to.”
Teresa will be Health Hero for the month of August and will receive a treat from sponsors Park Plaza Cardiff.
