Paediatric Emergency Medicine Consultants are taking on the Cardiff Sprint Triathlon for colleagues in the Emergency Unit at University Hospital of Wales (UHW).
Cardiff & Vale Health Charity were contacted by Nikola Creasey, Paediatric Consultant and Wellbeing Lead for the Emergency Unit at UHW. Nikola is passionate about supporting her Emergency Unit colleagues, who we all know have to deal with incredibly difficult and traumatic situations in a pressured environment, day in and day out.
In Nikola’s words, “We are a team of Paediatric Emergency Medicine Consultants taking on the challenge of the Cardiff Sprint Triathlon on 30th June! We would love to raise some money for our Emergency Department and specifically to help us look after the wellbeing of our incredible staff!
“Our Emergency Unit staff are working tirelessly in really challenging circumstances and are doing an incredible job. We really want to support and look after them better so they can continue to provide excellent care to our patients! The triathlon is going to be a huge challenge for us (some of us more than others!) so we would really appreciate your support!”
Joining Nikola for this epic challenge are Hannah Murch, Sara Edwards, Helen Newsome and Andora Webster, and the event takes place at Cardiff Bay on Sunday 30th June 2024.
Nikola also said, “I have first-hand experience of the impact our work in the Emergency Department has on us, the staff, having struggled myself after traumatic events, even years later. I am very passionate about ensuring proactive support is available for ALL staff rather than waiting until they are already suffering. We know that staff who are looked after and valued, can provide much better and safer care to our patients, which is what we all want to continue to do.”
