A passionate group of healthcare professionals from the Splott District Community Team will be taking part in the Cardiff Half Marathon 2025, raising funds for Cardiff & Vale Health Charity to support health and wellbeing initiatives across Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan.

The team, who provide vital home-based care to patients in the Splott area, are coming together to take on the challenge as a way to give back to the health community.

“I’ve never done the Cardiff Half before, but I love running,” said one team member. “I mentioned it at work, and a few colleagues said they’d join too. Now we’re training together and doing it for a cause we all care deeply about.”

The Cardiff & Vale Health Charity supports a wide range of projects that enhance patient care and staff wellbeing across Cardiff and Vale University Health Board. By running the half marathon, the Splott team hope to raise awareness and funds to help the charity continue its impactful work.

Training is well underway, and the team are embracing the physical and mental challenge with enthusiasm and humour.

“Lara thinks she’s Usain Bolt—she sprints too fast and burns out,” joked one teammate. “But she’s getting better at pacing herself. We’re all getting stronger, more confident, and feeling healthier.”

Beyond the race itself, the team see this as an opportunity to boost morale, strengthen team spirit, and promote healthy lifestyles—both for themselves and the communities they serve.

“We’re doing this for our patients, and for each other. It’s about team spirit, health, and hope.”
