Everyone at Cardiff & Vale Health Charity would like to say a huge thank you to Benjamin Bell, who is championing the Run 5k for the NHS Campaign, all in aid of helping the staff of Cardiff and Vale University Health Board during the COVID-19 pandemic!
Benjamin, a football coach for Penarth Town, was inspired to lead the campaign here in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan after seeing the success in other areas of the UK. The idea of the campaign, is to encourage all the sport lovers out there to run 5k during their daily exercise allowance, tweet a photo of them running to @Run5k4NHS_CandV and donate £5 to Cardiff & Vale Health Charity to help support their local NHS staff. Once complete, the runners are encouraged to challenge 5 others to also complete the challenge. So far, the total of the campaign currently stands at a fantastic £410 with the added benefits of keeping people fit and healthy as well as protecting their own mental health during the lockdown!

Benjamin said: “As a sports community we are all slightly lost due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Even though being on lockdown is difficult it is nothing compared to the NHS heroes who put their lives on the line for us every day. Sport has always had a special power to bring people together and it is important as a community we unite. Whilst on lockdown we can still go out for our daily exercise, keeping social distancing in mind. As a football coach, I thought something should be done to motivate people to keep fit during the lockdown with the addition of raising money for a great cause”.

We at Cardiff & Vale Health Charity very much appreciate this act of kindness and on behalf of all the NHS teams here in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan, we thank Benjamin and all those who have taken part in this challenge from the bottom of our hearts for their inspiring kindness and generosity once again.
