Owain is a massive advocate of the benefits of exercise for mental health and spends his days in the Hafan y Coed gym helping patients on their road to recovery. He has opened up about how exercise has been his coping mechanism for when he had previously struggled with his mental health.
Owain said, “In my time in Hafan y Coed I’ve met some pretty inspiring people, and Hannah is one of them. She came to our gym and worked her socks off every session. One day Hannah mentioned that she had a goal of running the Cardiff Half Marathon, so that got the clogs moving and I thought that’s a goal I could help her achieve. I contacted the Health Charity to see if I could secure a place for us, and offered to train Hannah to achieve her goal.”
Our Health Meadow is an extraordinary 7-acre site located at University Hospital Llandough in the Vale of Glamorgan. It offers a unique opportunity to deliver outdoor-based healthcare and rehabilitation as well as space for nature to thrive.
Whilst great strides have already been made by offering opportunities over the last 18 months to build and create Our Health Meadow as it is now, there is still more work to be done to ensure something tangible is created for our future generations.
Our Health Meadow’s plan is to build an eco-friendly therapeutic centre named The Nature Haven. Never before have NHS patients and members of the community designed and built a flagship piece of healthcare infrastructure.
This project has the potential to be the first healthcare facility in the world which is genuinely centred around nature and people’s needs; is designed, built and looked after as a new way of delivering patient, staff and community wellbeing, and underpinned by clinical research.
Owain and Hannah are aiming to raise money for Our Health Meadow to continue the amazing programmes provided by Down to Earth to improve Health and Wellbeing for patients, staff and the local community.
