Two years ago, Millie and her family experienced a life-changing event when their mum suffered a ruptured brain aneurysm. It was a traumatic time filled with uncertainty, but thanks to the exceptional care provided by the staff at the T4 Neurosurgical High Care Unit at the University Hospital of Wales, her mum survived.

“The staff were outstanding,” Millie shared. “They supported our mum and our entire family through the surgery and recovery. They were caring, friendly, and incredibly supportive during one of the hardest times in our lives.”

Recovery was challenging — both physically and mentally. The family often felt helpless, unsure whether their mum would ever return to work or regain a sense of normalcy. But through resilience and the unwavering support of the T4 team, she pulled through. While her journey continues and she still faces difficulties, the experience has taught the family to appreciate life more deeply.

In honour of the care her mum received, Millie raised an incredible £2,826 for the ward. As part of her fundraising efforts, Millie took on a personal challenge — completing the Newport 10K in April and the Porthcawl 10K in July 2025.

“As someone who isn’t a runner, it was a huge challenge,” Millie said. “But I was determined to give back to the ward that saved my mum’s life.”

Millie and her mum recently returned to T4 to visit the staff and personally thank them for the life-saving care they provided. Their visit was a heartfelt moment of reflection and appreciation, marking the end of a fundraising journey that began with hope and ended with impact.

Millie’s story is a powerful reminder of the importance of compassionate care and the strength of families in the face of adversity. Her fundraising efforts continue to support the vital work of the T4 Neurosurgical High Care Unit, ensuring more families receive the same life-saving support.
