Cardiff & Vale Health Charity has over 300 funds and appeals for areas throughout Cardiff and Vale University Health Board (UHB).  One of these funds is for the ‘Children’s Cancer Care Sierra Leone’.

In addition to supporting the treatment of children with cancer in Sierra Leone, the team from Cardiff and Vale UHB have also sent out a number of electronic tablets, which were donated to the Health Board’s IT Department, to palliative care colleagues working as part of the team, so that children can use them when they are on the wards for long periods of time.  The tablets have really helped with continuing education and providing entertainment for children and their families.

The team in Sierra Leone wanted to share how appreciated and helpful the tablets have been.  These photographs show the children in the Oncology Ward at Ola During Hospital playing games with one of the nurses. The tablets are really good way to encourage the children to open up about how they are feeling and share any worries through play, as well as being fun for them.

Cardiff and Vale UHB staff can support Cardiff & Vale Health Charity and the Children’s Cancer Care Sierra Leone fund (as well as Our Health Meadow fund) by easily signing up to the ‘In for a Penny’ payroll giving scheme.

Further information on this scheme and more details of how to sign up can be found on the website or complete an application form to register for In For a Penny and make a difference.
