Cardiff & Vale Health Charity would like to say a huge thank you to the midwives, student midwives and maternity staff throughout Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan on International Day of the Midwife.
For International Day of the Midwife this year, it’s important to say thank you and take stock of all the incredible work midwives and maternity staff have provided during a global pandemic.
Over the past year, midwives, maternity support workers and student midwives have met extraordinary circumstances and risked their lives to provide excellent care to women and their families.
The Health Charity is proud to support the work of Health Board midwives in providing the best care possible for women and their families. Through the Staff Lottery fund, projects have been granted funds to purchase positional labour birthing aids, birth equipment, mood lighting and supported the Elan team – enhancing services over and above what the NHS would normally provide.
During the pandemic, the Health Charity also provided food, drinks, snacks and 200 treat bags for midwives, so they could have pamper sessions at home to decompress and recharge following a stressful time.
Suzanne Hardacre, Head of Midwifery and Lead Nurse at Cardiff and Vale University Health Board said: “I’d like to thank Cardiff & Vale Health Charity for their support of both women in our care and also our staff.
“The Health Charity has made a huge difference to staff morale during the challenging times of the pandemic, by supplying food, drinks, snacks and treat bags. It’s the little things that help make a big difference and put a smile on the faces of staff.
“Through the Staff Lottery fund we have been lucky enough to secure funding for new birthing equipment to give women more positional choices during labour, we’ve installed active birth equipment and mood lamps to support women during labour, we are also very grateful to NHS Charities Together funding which allowed us to purchase essential supplies for vulnerable women and their families, particularly those who use the services of our Elan team.”
