In December 2020, Cardiff & Vale Health Charity celebrated 10 years of making things better for patients, visitors, staff and the wider community.
The Health Charity had planned to hold a 10-year celebration event, looking back at the major projects it has funded and celebrating the contributions of their donors, fundraisers, volunteers and community partners during the past decade. Unfortunately, due to Coronavirus these plans were cancelled. Instead, the Health Charity will be taking a look back at how its fundraisers, donors, volunteers and community partners have helped to change things for the better over the past ten years.
Here are just some of the activities and events held by the Health Charity supporters and fundraisers in 2017.
Jackie the activities co-ordinator for ward A7 at University Hospital of Wales, wanted to make the day room more welcoming for people with dementia. Her idea was to buy special games, puzzles, crafting equipment and interactive lighting to help people relax and take their mind off being in hospital. The NHS is not always able to fund these kinds of projects, but thanks to your donations, Jackie really has been able to Make It Better for everyone using the space.
Senior Staff from the Village Hotel and Leisure Club, were fundraising for the Cardiac and Stroke Unit Funds. Terry Regan and friends donated £200 for East 12 at University Hospital Llandough, via their annual charity football match.
Terry said, ‘In 2009 my son, Michael, died suddenly, aged 32. All his mates, mostly from the Llanedeyrn and Pentwyn areas, decided to hold a charity match to raise money for Michael’s son. We now have a game every year and give to various charities. Michael’s mum, Maggie, was diagnosed with young onset Alzheimer Disease in 2010 and was an inpatient on Ward East 12 and in recognition of the fantastic care she received, they decided to give some of the money raised this year to the ward.’
Hegsy and the Elements set themselves the challenge of performing 22 gigs in different Welsh hospitals – all so we can know more about cystic fibrosis.
The Inhale the Music event raised £7,310 for the Better Life Appeal.
