In December 2020, Cardiff & Vale Health Charity celebrated 10 years of making things better for patients, visitors, staff and the wider community.
The Health Charity had planned to hold a 10 year celebration event, looking back at the major projects it has funded and celebrating the contributions of their donors, fundraisers, volunteers and community partners during the past decade. Unfortunately, due to Coronavirus these plans were cancelled. Instead, the Health Charity will be taking a look back at how its fundraisers, donors, volunteers and community partners have helped to change things for the better over the past ten years.
Here are just some of the activities and events held by the Health Charity, supporters and fundraisers in 2016.
April
The Llandough Bunny Run was held in aid of the Better Life Appeal and The Breast Centre both based at University Hospital Llandough. There were a few options to take in scenic route around the hospital, a 5K run and a 1K Bunny Run with bunny ears being optional.
The fun-filled family event had some egg-citing activities for everyone including hook the duck, find the golden egg, face painting and live music. The event was hosted by the fabulous Nathan Wyburn and Wayne Courtney, Micky and Minnie Mouse along with the Easter bunny himself!

The donation from the Publicity Centre was spent by senior doctors and nurses in the Children’s Heart Unit, in the Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital for Wales, to benefit poorly children from all over south and west Wales. The Children’s Heart Unit was also one of the good causes that benefited from funds raised at the Waterloo Gardens Fete.

Charlene and Sara Khosbin, both signed up to the Swansea Half Marathon to help raise funds for the Transplant Unit at the University Hospital of Wales. Unfortunately, due to an injury, Charlene was unable to complete the run but was on hand to offer her full support to sister Sara who raised a fantastic £718.75.
Both chose to support the Transplant Unit after mum Ann, donated one of her kidneys to their Dad. Charlene said: “The care and attention that both of our parents received from the Transplant Unit at UHW received was out of this world. We cannot thank them enough for everything they have done and are continuing to do, for not only my Dad but for us as a family.”
November
Jordan Williams leapt out of an aeroplane (with a parachute) and raised over £1,000 for the Better Life Appeal. Sunnyvale Holiday Park in Saundersfoot also held a charity evening in support of Jordan and raised an extra £510 to add to the total.
All of this was in recognition of the care that Jordan’s sister Courtney has from the All Wales Adult Cystic Fibrosis Centre at University Hospital Llandough.
