Over a period of 3 days, 12 year old Cai Floyd, completed the mammoth challenge of spin cycling the distance between his home town of Cowbridge in the Vale of Glamorgan, to the Nightingale Hospital in London – a distance of 172 miles/ 276 km.

Cai was first inspired by the generous donation from Welsh footballer Gareth Bale to Cardiff & Vale Health Charity, and decided he wanted to do something too to help support staff who care for patients with Covid 19. He decided on this challenge, set up his fundraising page and he was off – also delighted that one of his first sponsors was Gareth Bales mum!!

Cai started his challenge on Wednesday 29th April by completing 92k of the 276k distance. Some carb loading, x-boxing and rest followed ahead of the next day!

Day 2 of the challenge saw Cai in the saddle for a total of 7 hours, and although very tired, he is was so chuffed with his progress and reached an incredible distance of 184k at the end of day 2. Fundraising had reached just over £1,100 and in Cai’s words, the generosity and support he has received has blown his mind!

Day 3, the final day of his challenge and 92km in store for Cai! He made sure he limbered up well with his little dog Tali, who was thoroughly exhausted by the by the whole event!!

Of course, Cai smashed his challenge with his family spurring him on, and crossed the finish line to ‘Eye of the Tiger’ showing pure determination and finishing strong.

To date, Cai has raised an astonishing £1,800 for Cardiff & Vale Health Charity, for all the NHS Heroes out there and the patients, who are in hospital without the love and support of their families during Covid 19.

If you haven’t had the chance to look at Cai’s fundraising page, and if you are feeling inspired or proud, then please spare a few pennies for this amazing young fundraiser.
