Everyone has been deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Captain Sir Tom Moore at the remarkable age of 100 years old.

The NHS is indebted to Captain Tom for the wonderful contribution he and his supporters made to ‘NHS Charities Together’ during this most difficult of times, which has made it possible for charities like Cardiff & Vale Health Charity to support staff and patients during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Health Charity received monies from NHS Charities Together which has helped healthcare services in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan with:

  •  Purchasing electronic tablets so that patients could maintain contact with their loved ones when Covid restrictions prevented face-to-face visits
  • Wellbeing projects to support people in the community cope with isolation
  • Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services accommodation update
  • A variety of Arts and Music projects
  • Indoor and outdoor furniture for rest areas for staff to take well-deserved breaks

Without the amazing generosity of Captain Tom and all of the other donors, it would not have been possible to provide these extra items and the Health Charity is incredibly grateful for  these kind contributions.

The NHS will always be here to support everyone – you, your family and friends throughout all of your lives.

Whilst this past year has proven that we can’t predict the future, staff at Cardiff and Vale University Health Board will always be there you.  Have you thought about how you could help us to make healthcare a better experience and support our staff in the future?

One of the ways you can do this is to leave a “Gift in your Will” which requires no financial donation now, but can leave an incredible legacy and a gift to others that you will always be remembered for.
